GAIA demonstrated in the GGS almond plantation


GAIA has reached a key milestone: the system has been demonstrated in the operational context of the GGS almond plantation.

The demonstration showed the main components working as an integrated agricultural digital solution. These include field monitoring, environmental data integration, Earth Observation layers, AI-based recommendations, digital twin visualisation and user-facing interaction.

The system is designed to solve a practical problem: farm information is often fragmented across different sources. GAIA brings these sources into a coherent workflow, helping the farmer understand field conditions and review irrigation-related recommendations in one place.

Farmer feedback during the deployment phase confirmed several design priorities. The interface must remain concise. Recommendations must be actionable. The reason behind a recommendation must be visible. The field view and digital twin are valuable when they help interpret sensor and Earth Observation data spatially.

The demonstration also confirmed the need to avoid premature claims on final agronomic impact. Some indicators, such as water use, operational costs, fertiliser-related effects and yield, require continued monitoring during the agricultural season. The project will consolidate these results during the final cycle.

At this stage, GAIA’s strongest results are operational and technical: the system has moved from development into farm use, and the farmer has reviewed the deployed decision-support workflow.
